John J Franson, 77 of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 24th 2010 with cherished family at his side.
John was born in Worcester, June 1st 1933 son of John and Margaret (DeSantis) Lavanga. He grew up in Leicester, graduated from Leicester High School, and joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean War He returned home and has lived in Shrewsbury for more than 41 years.
John is survived by his devoted wife and partner with whom he recently celebrated 52 years of marriage, Isabelle (Grembla) Franson; a daughter Lois Alkhouri of Jamesville NY; two brothers, Joseph Franson in Florida and Mark Franson of Leicester; a sister, Margaret Tripaldi in Florida; nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends. A brother, Anthony Franson pre deceased him.
John worked many years for the Town of Shrewsbury, as an custodian for the Shrewsbury Middle and High School‘s before retiring in 1994. He was also produce manager for the Iandoli Supermarket in Shrewsbury and the former A & P Markets.
John was a loving and caring man to everyone who knew him. He devoted his life to his wife and daughter. His life’s inspiration was the care and love he could give to them. He loved his country and was avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. John also enjoyed his summers in York Beach, Maine.
John’s funeral will be celebrated Wednesday, July 28th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. WITH A Mass at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, Wednesday July 28th prior to the funeral. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy Fund, care of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor
