Richard P. Lucia, Sr.

Richard P. Lucia, Sr., 86 of Boylston, passed away in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.  His wife of sixty-two years, Janet I. (McConnell) Lucia, predeceased him in 2014.

Richard is survived by two sons, Richard “Paul” Lucia, Jr., with whom he lived, and Kevin S. Lucia and his wife Debra of Middletown, NJ; a brother, Robert C. Lucia of Brookfield; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by two sons, Mark Lucia and Glen Lucia, and by a brother and sister, Harlow “Bubba” I. Lucia, and Tina Valentino.  Richard was born in Worcester, son of the late, Harlow I. and Louise Mildred (Ford) Lucia, and grew up in Boylston.  He later served his nation proudly in the United States Army, and was stationed in Ulm, Germany.  Upon his return, he re-settled in Boylston, where he and Janet raised their family.

Richard worked as a machinist for many years with O.S. Walker Company and numerous Fiber Optic Companies, before he retired.  He enjoyed sports of all kinds and played on several championship softball teams, well into his 50’s.  He also enjoyed horseshoes, ping-pong, bowling, and hockey.  He was an enthusiastic Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Calling Hours will be on Saturday, November 3, from 10 a.m. until his Funeral Service begins at 12 Noon in MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation Street, Worcester.  Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
