Michael J. Valery

Michael J. Valery, 81, a 30 year resident of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. Vincent’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Michael was born in Worcester on December 5, 1936, one of eight children to the late George C. and Dora M. (Duprez) Valery, Sr.  He was a graduate of Commerce High School.  Michael was a member of the Teamsters Local 170 where he worked as a driver and truck mechanic for 37 years retiring in 1987.  He also worked for the City of Worcester Housing Authority for 15 years.  Michael loved golfing, bowling, watching NASCAR and was a member of the Brown Square Civic Club and the former ITAM Club.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Madeline M. (Fazio) Valery; his two daughters, Ann Marie Fraser and her husband Carl and Michelle Vieira and her husband Richard; four grandchildren, Meghan and Christopher Vieira and Carl and Gabriella Fraser all of Shrewsbury; a brother, Edward Valery and his wife Margaret of Stewart, FL; two sisters, Doris Primmer and her husband Robert of Shrewsbury and Marie Millette; three grand dogs, Penny, Henry and Cooper; several nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by two brothers, George C. “Red” Valery, Jr. and Frank “Danny” Valery; two sisters, Vera Chiras and Sylvia Lavigne.

Michael’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all the staff and doctors at St. Vincent’s Kidney Dialysis Center and the Intensive Care Unit for the extraordinary care and compassion given to him and his family during this difficult time.

Services for Michael will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester with a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:30 am in St. Mary of the Hills Church, 630 Cross St., Boylston.  Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.  A period of calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 from 4-7 pm in the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Vincent’s Hospital Kidney Dialysis Center, 123 Summer St., Worcester, MA. 01608.  To share your thoughts and memories of Michael, please visit his personal guestbook at www.mercadantefuneral.com
