Michael A. Giard

November 1, 1955 — July 26, 2018

Michael A. Giard, 62, of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, surrounded by his family after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Michael is survived by his beloved wife of twenty-five years, Deborah M. (Arsenault) Giard; their four children, Taylor M. Giard and triplets, Julia M. Giard, Travis S. Giard, and Lauren A. Giard, all of Worcester; three brothers, Walter C. Giard and his wife Linda, Lee J. Giard and his wife Patricia, all of Worcester, and John P. Giard and his wife Mary of Pomfret, CT; a sister in law Lisa Giard of Plymouth, wife of his late brother Gary, who predeceased him in May 2016.  Michael was born in Worcester, son of the late Walter C. and Marion A. (Dell’Olio) Giard and has lived here all his life.  He graduated from North High School and attended Central New England College and later graduated from Quinsigamond Community College.

Michael spent his career in the distribution industry working early on for New England Frozen Foods as a warehouse supervisor. Over the years he advanced in companies such as Perkins Paper, Sygma, Martin Brower, where he held the position of Operations Manager and finally ending his career with National DCP where he was Director of Transportation.

Michael was a natural athlete and outdoorsman.  His passions were his family and sailing.  Early on he spent his time on his sail boat with friends and family and was an accomplished sailor.  He loved to stay active and was always either playing basketball or bike riding or wind surfing.  After he became a Dad he loved to take Deb the Kids and their Boxer Lily on camping trips to the cape where they spent most of their summers on the canal bike riding, fishing or going to the beach.  He also loved to take them on excursions to places like the Outer Banks, Washington D.C. and Gettysburg where he could awe them with his vast knowledge of history. During the fall and winter Michael loved to spend his Sundays watching the Patriots and then moving on to the Celtics as the seasons got going.

Michael will be remembered as a dedicated and loving husband and father.  His brothers and friends will remember his wonderful personality and competitive spirit.  He will always be thought of as a great man and dear friend.
