Louise (Laflamme) Hashway

December 22, 1949 — April 27, 2018

Louise M. (LaFlamme) Hashway, 68, of West Boylston formerly of Worcester passed away peacefully with those she loved gathered at her bedside, Friday, April 27th 2018, reuniting in heaven her husband of 40 years, George who passed away just over one year ago on April 9th.

She leaves three sons, Nathan and his wife Susan, her daughter Alexis Moscoffian and their son, Brayden, all of Millbury,  Matthew of West Boylston, Andrew and his wife, Laural of Watertown.  Louise is also survived by her twin sister, Linda Roy and her husband Norman of Tennessee and their children Jeremey, married to Karen who live in Kentucky and Nicholas, married to Lisa living in Georgia, she also leaves behind her two nephews Luke Woods of Whitinsville and Peter Woods of Gorham, ME and their respective families.  her sister in law Elaine Woods of Westboro pre deceased her.

Graduating from Worcester Public Schools, she earned her nursing diploma through Heywood Hospital School of Nursing in Gardner, MA.  Louise then began work in the Pediatric Department of St. Vincent Hospital, affectionately referred to as “St. Vincent on the hill”, during which she began pursuit of her BSN at Assumption College, Worcester.  During her time at St. Vincent’s, Louise met her husband George Hashway who also worked there as an ER nurse.  After 19 years, the Pediatric Department transitioned in size and location to a surgical unit, Louise left to pursue a very different facet of pediatric nursing, as a staff/triage nurse in the Out-Patient setting of Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates/Atrius Health in Chelmsford.  She remained there for 26 years, until failing health forced her retirement in 2018.

Louise thoroughly enjoyed her work with children and their families, providing hands on care, and supervisory or educational support to them, striving to improve the management of children’s health in the hospital and then the office setting.  Helping to soothe distraught parents was of particular interest to her and something she took great pride in.

She felt a strong social obligation to deter abortions, to return the status of Native Americans to their rightful place in this country, and to prevent the abuses and cruelties, physical or emotional, inflicted on the vulnerable, be they two or four-footed creatures. She made effort to do what she could when she could which translated to providing considerable financial support to these causes.

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Thursday, May 3rd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.  Her funeral will be held Friday, from the funeral home with a procession to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1290 Grafton St where her celebration of life mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am.  Burial next to her husband George will follow in Hope Cemetery.
