Jerrene (White) Worthington

Jerrene (White) Worthington, 94, of Natick, formerly of Worcester, passed away with her devoted husband by her side Friday, August 24th 2018.

Jerrene was born January 30, 1924 “six miles east of West,” Texas, a daughter of Chester and Effie (Sullivan) White. She married the “Love of her life” George A. Worthington on January 1st 1954, beginning a 64 year marriage of love, family, dedication, and devotion. They lived and worked in Texas until 1961, New Jersey from 1961-1978, Connecticut for three years, and Chicago for several years, before moving to Massachusetts in 1993.

Jerrene is survived by her devoted husband, George; a son, Mark W. Worthington and his wife Annette of Natick; a daughter, Phyllis G. Sparks and her husband Jay of Richardson, Texas; granddaughters Nikki and Caroline; great granddaughter, Brandy; and nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Her son Craig died in 1964. Her two brothers, Eldon and Ethridge White, her sister, Deita Lee Griffin, grandson Nicholas and granddaughter Elizabeth, nephew Gayle, her beloved dachshund Sam, and friends too numerous to list also pre-deceased her.

Jerrene and George joined the Presbyterian Church in 1966 under the pastorship of the Rev. Dr. Gerald S. Mills in New Providence, New Jersey. Since moving to Massachusetts, they have been members of the First Presbyterian Church of Worcester. Jerrene served as a Deacon for several years, and was a member of the Lydia Circle and a bible study group. A Daughter of the American Revolution, one of her proudest achievements was to write and publish a 700 page book 30 years in the making about the ancestors and descendants of her parents: Traces from the Cotton Patch (© 2005; Library of Congress #2005932974). She loved her family and any time she could be with them.

Friends and relatives are invited to a period of calling hours, Tuesday, August 28th from 9:00 am to 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Worcester, 125 Holden St., followed by her funeral service at 10:00 AM.  Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Afterwards friends and relatives may come back to the church to have lunch with the family. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Worcester, 125 Holden St., Worcester, MA 01606 or the Alzheimer’s Association of Massachusetts, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
