George M Coleman

George M. Coleman, 83, A retired Worcester Police Officer died peacefully Monday December 10, 2018 in St. Vincent Hospital surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness. George is survived by his wife of 60 years Aurelia “Deedy” (Simone) Coleman, His sons Francis J. Coleman of Worcester John P. Coleman and his wife Brenda of Oxford, a daughter Kim Coleman of Worcester, and he was the proud grandfather to Gia, John, Laina, Caliana, and Sofia. George also leaves a great granddaughter Cecelia, and many nephews and nieces. George also leaves three half sisters, Barbara, Patricia, and Sissy. He was predeceased by 2 brothers Robert and Steven Coleman, and his loving sister Eleanor (Carter) Govoni.

George was born in Cambridge Massachusetts son of the late George M Sr. and Florence (Carter) Coleman and came to live in Worcester at an early age. He was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School. George also served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After returning to Worcester he became a Worcester Police Officer for many years before he retired, He also worked at the Sherwood Williams Company on Southbridge Street a place he really enjoyed working for. He was a member of the Church of St. John, and was also a member and past President of the Men’s Biscegliese Club, and was an active member of the Worcester Patrolman’s Association and Union.

 George loved a good day at the track and enjoyed going to the beach, watching hockey, and looked forward to working in his garden. He loved going shopping some thing he did almost every day! George will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

A funeral Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday December 17, at 11:00AM in the Church of St John, 40 Temple St. A period of visitation with the family will be held from 10AM to 10:45AM prior to the Mass in church.in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the  St Francis Xavier Center, 20 Temple St. Worc.
