Francis J. Porcaro

May 3, 1930 — November 19, 2018

Francis J. Porcaro, 88 of Holden, formerly of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Francis was born in Worcester, the son of the late Alphonse & Florence (Beando) Porcaro. His sister Rose predeceased him. He graduated from North High School, Class of 1948 and later enlisted in the United States Army serving his country as a Sergeant during the Korean War. Francis worked at Wyman Gordon Company as a Metallurgist for 40 years before retiring. He later owned & operated his own subcontracting company for Commerce Insurance until recently. Francis was a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church at Our Lady of Loreto Church.
Fran’s retirement was dedicated to family and friends. His home was a safe-haven for all his children and grandchildren to take refuge. Each and every Sunday was an open invitation to listen to his music, watch his Pats, his Sox and his Celts. All were free to gripe about their jobs, the world, and their troubles. His home was theirs’s to let loose, and of course, to feast on the mandatory home-made macaroni meal. For Fran, this was his reason to live. And live he did, despite his battle with health. His goal was to spread comfort, to shelter from suffering, to provide a “space” which could only be described as pure “acceptance”. As the grandchildren grew both in size and number, his little home in Holden seemed to grow smaller in sync. Despite the usual mob scene, it is where we all hung out. Never was there so small a kitchen accommodating so many people; chairs from other rooms were jammed in and around his table; nobody minded, nobody cared. They were where they wanted to be. This occurred Sunday after Sunday after Sunday…… and he loved each and every one of them. And he loved each and every one of his kids, his grandkids, and his great grandkids. They learned at early ages where the fun was and more importantly, where the love was.
The poet Robert Frost once said: “Home is the one place where, once you get there, they have to let you in.” Mr. Frost must certainly have had the pleasure of knowing, Fran Porcaro.
Francis is survived by his wife of 67 years Mary Jane (Cusson) Porcaro; his daughter, Denise of Holden, his son, Ron and his wife Martha of Paxton, his daughter Gina Belsito and her husband Al, and his daughter Diane who predeceased him; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Porcaro of Paxton, Matthew Paldino of Paxton, Jennifer Pullen and her husband Nate of Southborough, Deanna Paldino & Nick of Worcester, Daniel Belsito of Rutland, David Belsito & his fiancé Juliette Lawton of Worcester, and Gianna Belsito of Rutland; Four great grandchildren; Ava, Benjamin, Alivia and Charlotte. He also leaves his lifelong friend, Richard Patrone of Worcester along with many nieces & nephews.
