Eva (DeFazio) Gambaccini

November 11, 1923 — September 20, 2018

Eva V. (DeFazio) Gambaccini, 94, a resident of West Boylston passed away peacefully September 20th, 2018 with family gathered at her side.

Eva was born in Athol, MA, one of 13 children of Dominick and Julia (Grande) DeFazio, Raised in Worcester by Eliza Spinachi. Eva graduated from Commerce High School and earned her RN from the Worcester City Hospital school of nursing.  She began her career with the former Worcester City Hospital, later accepting a position as branch manager of Peoples Savings Bank, West Boylston for over 12 years before retiring in 1975. She has lived for over 75 years in West Boylston. 

Eva’s husband of 61 years Peter A. Gambaccini, Jr. passed away in 2004 and son Peter A. Gambaccini, III, in 2017.  She is survived by her three children, Darlene M. DiNoia and her husband Frank of Worcester, Richard D. Gambaccini and his wife Gayle of Greensboro, NC and Donald P. Gambaccini of West Boylston; five grandchildren, Evalyn (Gambaccini) O’Rourke, Eliza DiNoia, David Gambaccini, Todd DiNoia, and Frank DiNoia Jr; 9 great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews extended family members.  12 siblings including Margaret L. Gentile and Robert Erricola pre-deceased her.  

Eva was a member, lector, eucharistic minister of Our Lady of Good Counsel church.  Active in West Boylston Town affairs, Eva was a member and Past Chairman of the West Boylston Housing Authority and town notary public.  She was a member and past president of the Women’s Club of West Boylston.  Eva was also a member of the Red Hat Society and a former nonprofit organization designed to assist the challenged, The Worth Inc. 

A period of calling hours will be held Wednesday, September 26th from 9:00 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St before leaving in procession to Our Lady of Good Counsel, 111 Worcester Rd, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am.   Burial next to her husband will follow in Mt Vernon Cemetery.  Thank you to the staff at Knollwood Nursing Center and the Notre Dame Hospice. In lieu of flowers memorial remembrances in her name can be made to Our Lady of Good Counsel Church and to the Central Ma Vets Inc, 69 Grove St Worcester 01609.  Our sincerest thanks to her gracious home caregivers, Martine, Annie, and to Guirlene who has been with Eva for many years.
