Dorsen (Smith) Buffone-Berthiaume

August 7, 1935 — July 9, 2018

Dorsen J. (Smith) Buffone-Berthiaume, 82, of Oldsmar, Florida formerly of Worcester passed away unexpectedly in her sleep, Monday, July 9th 2018 in her home. 

Dorsen’s husband of 28 years, Thomas Berthiaume, passed away in 2007.  Her first husband, Joseph Buffone passed away in July of 1976.   She is survived by three daughters, LeeAnn Buffone-Gervais and her husband Paul of West Boylston, Judith Remuck, Sally Brunelle and her husband Joseph all of Worcester; three stepsons, Mark Berthiaume of Worcester, Patrick Berthiaume of Charlton, Bryan Berthiaume and his wife Denise of Martinez, California; a brother, Charles F. Smith of Fountainville, PA; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends both here and in Florida.   Her twin sister, Donna Rochette passed away in 1974 and son in law, William J. Remuck  passed away in 1996. Born and raised in Worcester, Dorsen was the daughter of Charles F. and Anne F. (O’Neill) Smith.  She graduated from Commerce High School, lived and raised her children in the Holmes Field neighborhood of Worcester before moving to Florida in 2003.  Soon after the University of Massachusetts established its Worcester Campus, Dorsen accepted a position as Executive Assistant to the Hospital Medical Director where she worked many years before retiring in 1996.   At one time, Dorsen worked as a teacher’s aide at the newly built Harrington Way Jr. High School and as an office assistant for Norton Company.  

Dorsen was a former member of St Stephen’s church and attended church regularly in Florida.  Blessed with good health, Dorsen enjoyed travel, reading, sewing, volunteering and summers with family on Cape Cod.   She was an avid New England Sports Fan and at onetime alongside her husbands was active in politics. Nothing was more important than her family. Her greatest pleasure was being Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours Sunday, July 15th from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St.     Her funeral mass and burial in St John Cemetery will be private on Monday July 16th.  In lieu of flowers,  memorial remembrances in Dorsen’s name can be made the Boston Children’s Hospital,  300 Longwood Avenue, Boston, MA 02115 or St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 USA / [email protected]., for her love that she had for her children and grandchildren
